Gillian PattinsonGillian Pattinson attended the Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting in London, with the intention of studying calligraphy. However marriage and four children intervened. It was not until they all came to live in the West Highlands that painting became an essential part of her life. In order to learn to paint her “own scenery” Gillian started her own painting school—the North West Highlands Art Courses. Over the years these courses, held in the stunning setting of Gillian’s home near Kishorn, have attracted tutors of international renown and students from all over the world, many of whom are annual visitors. Gillian herself uses many types of media but finds mixed media and collage one of the most exciting in which to express the emotions that the Highland scenery evokes. She walks the hills and seashore in all weathers trying to capture the constantly changing light and colour, the fury and the calm of this magnificent landscape. Gillian is a regular exhibitor at Tore Art Gallery and The Morvern Gallery, Isle of Lewis and the Carron Gallery, Lochcarron. She has also exhibited at the Hanover Fine Arts Gallery, Edinburgh, the Mall Gallery and Affordable Art Sale in London and the Barn Gallery in Cheshire. Gillian’s paintings have been bought by people from many parts of Europe, the United States and as far afield as South Africa and Australia. Gillian is a member of Highland Open Studios (HOS) and will be exhibiting paintings in her Studio Gallery at Brynaport during the HOS week Saturday 31st May to Sunday 8th June. The Gallery will than be open until Christmas except when there is an Art Course in progress.

Working fast to keep the spontaneity I will tear, gouge, splatter and add paper until I feel I have captured the power and excitement of the scene.” — Gillian Pattinson — ![]() Member of Highlands Open Studios For further information and prices email Gillian at: gillian@nwhighlandsart.co.uk |
